Salsa Verde – A Cozy Kitchen

This easy recipe for green sauce is spicy, slightly spicy and perfect for tacos, enchiladas or grilled meats. You will only need 15 minutes and five ingredients! I love to roast my tomatillos, which adds the taste of perfect coal. Add my roasted meat tacos along with a large jug of watermelon.

As you know, I have many Mexican recipes loved on this site. I adore Mexican food and there is nothing better than homemade sauce (hello to my handle and cookie peak sauce). This green sauce is very easy to do, so we are going to enter it.

Ingredients you will need for green sauce

  1. Tomato. These are in the Gooseberry family. They have peels in them. They provide the beautiful green color, along with acidity. I also use them in my green pozole.
  2. Onion. This onion gives it a creamy texture and flavor.
  3. Jalapen. I think two adds the perfect level of spices. But do not hesitate to add more if you want spicy!
  4. Garlic. I think three nails is the perfect amount. I tried more and masked the taste of the tomatillos.

How to make green sauce

  1. Mix the tomatillos, garlic, onion and jalapeño with olive oil.
  2. Place on a baking tray lined with aluminum foil and place it in the oven. I like to roast this for about 10 minutes. We want everything to soften.
  3. Roast. Transfer the baking tray under the grill for 3-4 minutes. This only gets everything pleasant and roasted, adding taste to the sauce.

4. Mingle. Cut the jalapeño stem. Add the tomatillos, garlic, onion and jalapeño to the blender, along with the coriander and the great pinch of Kosher salt.

5. Give it a flavor and adjust the salt to taste.

6. Add Lima Juice to taste. If you wish more sour, add a lima juice squeeze. I felt mine did not need it! This will depend on your tomatoes.

Recipe tips

  • Chicken soup. Traditionally, many people add chicken shutter (like Knorr or better than Bouillon). Feel free to add a teaspoon of 1/2 more or less. I felt mine was incredible without him.
  • Lime juice. I discovered that I didn’t need Lima juice. This will depend on the level of acidity of its tomatoes. Add it if you wish!
  • Serranos vs. Jalapeños. I used jalapeños because I like a bit soft, but if you want ultra spicy, add two mountains instead of jalapeños.

Frequent recipe questions

Can I boil the ingredients for green sauce instead of roasting them?

Some people boil all ingredients for 5 minutes or so compared to roasting. I prefer roast due to the aggregate flavor. But if you want, boil everything!

  • Preheat your oven at 400F. Align your baking tray with aluminum foil. Place the tomatillos on a baking sheet, along with the onion, garlic cloves and jalapeños. Sprinkle everything with olive oil. And rub it in olive oil. We want to make sure everything is evenly covered.
