If you asked the modern American to list which aspects of the self we should devote our energies to developing, I suppose we would probably get:
And the ancient yogis of yore would agree! They are 4 of the 5 Koshas!
And yet, we are often left wanting. We have this subtle, nagging feeling that there is a gap, a vital piece missing. Ahhh… the fifth Kosha. Ananadamaya Kosha is the energy of peaceful space. It is the completely present moment in the forest. It is the calm mind of savasana. It is the harmony of meditation or prayer. It is also that feeling of unconditional maternal love. (Happy Mother’s Day!)
But the missing piece isn’t quiet moments: we all know the importance of taking time for ourselves. The missing piece is that the silent space we create should not remain a space! It’s meant to be filled!
Ananadamaya Kosha is the peaceful space that is filled. It is the connection we find in the forest. It is the fullness/sufficiency that we find in savasana. It is the surrender that we find in meditation or prayer. We are taken care of. We are treasured. We are full.
The missing piece is that we are part of a whole.
Until next time,
Laura
