If you are planning a trip to Seville, I gathered my best tips depending on whether it is in the city for a short trip, a longer stay and some of the things I would like to have known.
Hello friends! I hope you have a wonderful week so far! This is the last publication of my travel series (we made a cruise to Spain, Italy and France + Time in Barcelona and four weeks in Seville) and things will return to our programming regularly scheduled here. You know, until I plan my next deranged trip hahaha.
Today I wanted to share some of the things I have learned about Seville: Things to know, the favorite restaurants/places and the advice I had to learn in the difficult way. I have broken it in two segments; The first is if you are planning a shorter trip (approximately one week) and for longer trips (3-4+ weeks).
Tips for traveling to Seville, Spain
Short trip:
Language:
If you travel to Spain, I think it is worth learning key phrases that you will use. This book is extremely useful and I also recommend working with a tutor if possible. Josep is my current tutor and it’s incredible! While I have discovered that many people in Spain know English, many do not. It is worth knowing at least how to get where you want to go in a taxi, how to ask for food and drinks, ask about the invoice, ask where the bathrooms are, make educated conversation, etc.
It is also worth noting that in Seville, they will use condensed phrases versions, which is casual and fun:
– Please (please) = please (I didn’t use this personally because you feel a bit cheesy, but I definitely listened to it)
– see you later (see you late) = a then
– Good morning (Good Morning) = Good (But You Can Say Good Any Time of Day Instead of Hola Hello)
– Gracías (thanks) = Gracia
I also wait to listen and use a lot of “Valle”. You can agree, ok, do you understand? (Ok?) Are you ready? (Ok?), I’m ready (yes, ok), come on (okay!), Etc.
Wear comfortable shoes!
There is a lot of walk, which is one of my favorite things. I love to explore new places on foot 🙂 The streets are cobbled and sometimes unequal, so stay away from the heels. Cute sneakers and sandals are always a good option. You can exchange more elegant sandals or an escape to dinner. I live in Vejas when we are in Europe!
Air-conditioning
AC is more rare, even in restaurants and stores. Get a nice fan and you will fit well! As we are of Az and I love hot yoga, heat did not bother me much at all, but the children were melting. We ended up going to Alehop to get a man from the face and a neck fan.
Reservations:
Reserve any gastronomic reserve and tickets in advance.
Some of my favorite places:
Royal Alcazar
Flemish Dance Museum
The mushrooms
Plaza España
Triana market
The cathedral
Flamenco at the mushrooms, house of memory, or the cabonería (a bar with impromptu flamenco performances)
Restaurants
Gastronomic Tips:
– If you want water, be sure to specify whether you want water with gas (bright) or natural (still).
– The coffee shops often ask if it is for here (eat there) or to carry (go). While it is not much for smaller places, some restaurants do not offer meals to carry or charge for supplies to carry, just something to consider. The boxes to go after a meal are not so common, so you must ask and wait to pay a bit (.50-1 euros) for the supplies to carry.
– Do not expect tips here, but appreciated. My friend in Barcelona said that he will tip a euro or two if he feels that the service was excellent/beyond.
– Order summer red instead of the bleeding. It is less sweet, super good and refreshing. I also recommend obtaining a bottle of Albariño wine.
– Paella is a lunch meal more commonly, not a dinner meal. 😉
Our best restaurants in Seville:
– Mokambo for Brunch
– Alfalfa 8 for cocktails and dinner
-Petra for cocktails and dinner
– Rinconcillo for lunch or dinner
– Maria Tifulca for a romantic dinner
– Cañabota (an incredible experience of Michelin star we enjoy)
-Bakery without gluten chak
– Almazen – Cute little breakfast coffee
Longer trip:
As we were in Seville for four weeks, we had to experiment what could be * Live * there for a while, with a lot of inactivity time, purchases of groceries, cooking in the Airbnb, laundry and without feeling that we were in a hurry to do everything.
Layout purchasing tips:
We ended up buyable purchases most of the days because it is summer and the children pip a ton, but also so that we could see what was fresh and good. When we are out of the city (especially for longer trips), we try to go out to eat Max 1x a day (perhaps also a snack or ice cream) because it can be very expensive and we do not feel better with 100% restaurants meals.
In addition, vegetables are scarce here in restaurants. It is not the standard to go to restaurants and see many sides or vegetable salads in the menu. I tried to eat and cook them in the Airbnb when I could, only to obtain some additional nutrients and fiber.
Product purchases:
You should wear gloves to play any product and put the product in a product bag. Once it is pocketed, take it to a nearby food scale to weigh it. Find the product that is weighing on the screen, press the button, a sticker bar code appears to attach to the product bag.
Bring your own bags.
They have available bags, but you have to pay for them, and it is easier to store a couple of bags in your luggage to use as beach bags, pool and supermarket.
Some of our basic products:
Fruit
Vegetables and hummus or guacamole to wet
Gluten and Nutella Picos
Spanish prepared Spanish tortilla (so good)
Yogurts
Eggs
French fries and bars
Peanut butter in toast with berries or banana
Also brought daily nutritional support and house truvani to be able to mix the two for a protein pudding covered with berry, bar or peanut butter or butter
Laundry:
In general, we plan to wash the clothes if possible when we travel because then we do not have to pack so much. Brought our house laundry capsules. (I use the Rosey brand of Thrive Market).
It is worth mentioning here that dryers are not so common in Spain. The clothes are dried outside. To be honest, I really love this. The sun dries clothes so fast and feel so fresh and clean! The only annoyance is that the towels become a little crispy 😉 Our Airbnb had a washing machine and a drying shelf that would lead to the roof to dry our clothes.
The roof ended up being locked up for a while, so I searched them in the living room on the drying shelf:
Airbnb:
If you stay longer, I definitely recommend finding a place with AC (which is worth in the summer) and a patio or somewhere to relax outside. This was my only regret with our Airbnb. It was very nice, but very small because I would imagine that we would be outside and about most of the time. We ended up spending a lot of time there and I would have loved to have a small patio or somewhere to relax outside while the girls slept or relax in the air conditioning.
Garbage + recycling:
It is different from the states! Most places have a garbage location in the neighborhood where you will leave your garbage and classify recycling. I am always impressed by recycling with a glass container, pasta, paper/cartons, food remains and several.
Bathrooms:
It is worth pointing here that you cannot download any toilet paper in most bathrooms in Seville. In general, there is a large can of garbage next to toilets for toilet paper or anything else you need to throw. The pipes are very old and can easily obstruct. Sometimes, public bathrooms do not have toilet paper, so it is useful to have a package of fabrics and hand disinfectant in your bag.
Random:
– Eat the Jamòn. Never like pork in the United States, but you can bet that your loot I have ham almost every day in Spain.
– Get floors in Flabelus! (Progressing, they run small. I usually have 38 and size up to 39)
– Check out Mira Mira for Super Inepxnsive jewels but very pretty
– Obtain some of the beautiful chocolate bans and the turbra in chocolate stores.
– Buy some of the best olive oil (which you can really ask for at Amazon but still!)
-Ser Carrillada (pork cheek with red wine reduction sauce … for Dieeee)
– Walk to Triana to explore all handmade ceramics!
Ok, I think those are the majority of my advice … for now !!
If you go to Seville, you spend the best moment. It is really a magical place with a beautiful culture, super friendly people, incredible food and impressive views. You will go.
Ok, friends: What’s on your travel list at this time? Any recs of Seville to add?
