I come to you with something a little different from my Race Matters column: Summer reading recommendations! I have been a book editor for more than 20 years; And reading is not just my career, it’s my passion. This summer is full of star books, which is ideal for readers, but also presents a challenge: how to know what to collect. If you need some book ideas for your beach bag, porch collation or road trip, I have reduced a list of eight that has something for everyone …
It is a love story by Annabel Monaghan. If you are already a fan of Annabel’s books (At the same time as next year, Nora leaves the script, summer romance), Then you know that she creates the most endearing and identifiable characters that you cannot help support. His new heroine, Jane Jackson, is a former star of the girl who tries to survive her past as a “crazy” comedy character. She has her eye on making a feature film of a romantic comedy script for which she has fallen in love. To attract your boss to Greenlight the project, promises that your old friend, Mega Pop, Jack Quinlan, will write an original song for the movie. The problem? Jack is not really a friend, more like someone who broke Jane’s heart years before. To track Jack, he will need the help of the last person he wants to resort, his co -worker gives. He can also help with a broken heart. This novel falls like a glass of cold lemonade on a hot, easy, effervescent, completely satisfactory day.
King of Sa Cosby’s ashes. If you like audiobooks, I very Recommend listening to this novel: the narrator Adam Lazarre-White has such soft baritone, he would hear him read a toaster manual. King of the ashes It does not shout Light Beach Read (there is a sandy advantage in Cosby’s work, in addition to some bodies), but you will never read stories about gangsters, crime and danger with richer characters and a stronger emotional core. An outstanding feature of Cosby’s work is its configuration: evocative in the south of return, where language is color, thick humidity and strong insects. Roman, our hero, returns home to the Rural Virginia to consider a high -risk drama: a father in the hospital who cannot direct the family crematorium, a sister tormented by the mysterious disappearance of her mother and a brother entangled in the underworld local criminal. The plot runs, but beyond the moving turns, the novel is a powerful reminder of how much we will risk to protect those we love.
Taylor Jenkins Reid atmosphere. I am more than impressed by Taylor’s range: he has written more than a dozen novels that explore different worlds, from competitive tennis to Old Hollywood. All of which has made it an “editorial power”, as Time magazine said in a recent profile. Now he is taking readers to … space. Set in the 1980s, this novel follows two women in the second class of NASA astronauts who must navigate the competitive, sexist and stimulating space of space trips as true pioneers in many ways. Hidden romance, new borders and pulse blow adventure? Check. Check. Check. Think: Gun, Hidden figures and For all humanity vibes. One of my favorite readings of 2025.
The names of Florence Knapp. Random fact about me: my parents planned to name Stephanie throughout my mother’s pregnancy; Then, when I was born, they made a last minute change to Christine. Sometimes I wonder, would my life have developed differently if it had been “Stephanie”? That is the premise of this novel. The names It includes three different narratives, the sliding doors style, which follow the path of the life of Cora’s son, if three different names were given. The names are only part of the legacy we give to our children, and Cora recognizes everything that is happening to his son: resistance and trauma.
Great Paloma Resort by Cleyvis Natera. I was forced to be a comparison of Loto Blanco on this list, and this is! This novel explores class and tourism in a high -end complex in the Dominican Republic, and the plot of the page of the page arrives at the scene. I adore a story about the sisters, and here, the older and obedient sister, Laura, realizes that her rebel sister, Elena, has deep problems, the type of problems that Laura could cost Laura the promotion of her dreams and the escape of the orphan sisters has dreamed. Family explorations, wealth and effort are as rich as people in this five -star resort. Soon, August 12.
Everyone is lying to you for Jo Piazza. He would have to live under a rock not to have heard about the phenomenon of commerce. The journalist Jo Piazza (who is also my writing partner) now brings us the trade novel par excellence. It is an exciting and fast pace mystery: it comes for the plot turns, stay for the commentary on social networks. The novel expert all the feelings we have while we move through our feeds at 3 am Soon on July 15.
What kind of Paradise from Janelle Brown? It could be the older cousin of Jo’s book. In spite of all our love/hate to social networks, this story leads us to the eve of the Internet in Silicon Valley. Our protagonist, Jane, grows in a rural cabin of Montana with her devotion but manic, which is prone to diatribes on the ills of civilization. Jane disappoints himself with the vision of his father’s world, with a persistent feeling that something is wrong and what he has told him about his past. Finally, it accumulates to make an impressive getaway, although not before being caught in an incident that will have life consequences. His path takes her to San Francisco in the 1990s on the eve of the rise of Puntocom when the Internet promised to be a great utopia. As soon as I finished the book, I wrote to Janelle a personal gust note. I was completely in love with the voice and I couldn’t leave this.
And, of course, I have to include mine. All the men I have loved again, my solo debutHe left last week and is very friendly to the beach. It is a story about a woman, Cora, who falls in love with two twenty -year -old men, and same Two men again while he is about to turn 40. A wild premise torn from my own life. It is a fun, sincere and smoking story of the age of majority, heavy in nostalgia and a musical reproduction list of the 90s. I will send a signed book plate to any cup of Jo’s reader requesting one.
What books are at the top of your list this summer? The authors also love when readers arrive at events. Then, consult the information of the tour of these novels, put a nice summer dress and go to make a friend.
