Each dad seems to have strong thoughts about things such as music, travel and thermostat. Mine is no exception. So, in honor of Father’s Day, I called my father and interviewed him about his rules for life …
Travel
Travel to a new place.
When you go to a family place, time works at the same pace as at home. But when you don’t know what is in every corner, time extends greatly. One day it becomes a week, and a week it becomes a month. Experimenting something new is very restorative. Sitting in a roof or lying plate on the beach, that is not my cup of tea; I prefer to paste pins in my eyes.
Get the window seat.
I like to look out the window and see people become an ants size. I also like to be aware of the situation; I want to see that the fins fell as they should when we land.
Go out early for the airport.
Due to safety, parking challenges and general plundering, I tend to allow 45 minutes of maneuvering margin.
Amusing
Talk to Wallflowers.
At a party, I like to talk to the walls of the wall. Maybe they don’t know anyone there. My only skill, if you want, as a conversationalist is that I know a little about many things. So, whatever, I will have a good time learning more from this person who knows everything about the southern pole of the moon or how it was to grow in this part of the world.
Listen to people.
Sometimes, in a conversation, the person is only waiting to get their next bit. When someone is absorbed in himself, I feel sorry for them. There are much more interesting things than your individual perspective. If you can’t see any other point of view, you are really being lost!
No dinner music.
I am an active music listener, so when music is played, even in an elevator, I can’t No hear. Either handel or love or Taylor Swift, I turn it off while I am with people.
Cars
Everyone should get a Honda Fit.
Each family in the country can be satisfied with a Honda Fit, and if you have a larger family, you get a VW Passat truck. It is important not to buy a large car only during that week a year when you take all children camping.
Conduct gently on the ice.
Without sudden movements, be soft as silk. You don’t need to go slowly, be soft.
Use climate control.
I remember the Black Sho Ford Taurus that I had in 1991, the first car I had with climatic control. I was thinking, I need a little more about something, and I extended my hand to press a button on the board, and changed before my finger came there. I thought, Ooooh; And they sold me. In the winter, I put it in 69, and in the summer, 71. Otherwise, I never touched it; I could not do better.
Breeding
Name your child after they are born.
We had names floating before you were born. Your name was initially Lucy Claire, did you know? But first you have to meet the child, I really believe it. You can put that on my tombstone: meet the child.
Answer your children’s calls.
I always pick when my children call because I only like to talk to them. I prefer to talk to them than probably any other person in the world. And you normally do not call a problem, but if they do, I want to be ready.
Thanks Dad! And please tell me: What are your dad’s rules for life?
PD: A love letter to alternate parents, and who resemble children in their lives?
