What’s Your Coffee Order? (Plus, a Funny Paris Story)

Paris

Every time I turn to a coffee, while walking with one arm with a friend or dragging my preteens complaints, I always look forward to my order: a flat target, which is, as I am sure you know, basically a coffee with milk with less milk. So delicious!

However, not everyone has loved my coffee requests. When I was in Paris a few years ago, I stopped in a small coffee in Marais and asked for an American with milk. “No,” the barista replied. I waited for a rhythm, and when he did not explain his thinking, I thought he could not have an established rate for that specific application. “Oh, I’m happy to pay coffee with milk, or whatever you think is better,” I suggested, trying to help. “No,” he repeated, firmly. “Our coffee will have a burnt flavor if I do that, so I will not.”

Honestly, I loved her passionate. After all, I knew his coffee better, so I asked him what he recommended, and made two shots of Espresso, he executed wonderfully.

The merchants in New York will also do this: “You cannot put Parmesan cheese in shrimp paste”, or “the chef will not prepare a well” or “we do not toast bagels, they are already heating.” I love someone who cares so much about his trade that he or she will set a foot, hard.

Now I am curious, please tell me: What is your coffee request? Any recommendation? I am still relatively new in coffee (I only started drinking it during the pandemic), so I am always anxious for advice. Xoxo

Update: Many readers comment that they drink black coffee, which makes me think about the Brooklyn Nine-Nine scene where Jake and Charles are under covered as Longshoreman. Jake, trying to be hard, orders, “coffee – extra black, without additional sugar.”

Ps photos of our travels from Paris and two magical itineraries of Paris.
