We have written a lot about fiction, but the other day, a reader named Jennifer made a request: “Can there be a publication on non -fiction books? There is much love for the novels in these parts, but I would like to know if other COJ readers are in the books about history, nature, biographies, etc. simply throw it there to see if it adheres.”
Yeah! Great idea, Jennifer. Let’s talk about no fiction!
I love Love Love’s memoirs and biographies, there is a lot that I would recommend, and I learn a lot from them. It is incredibly revealing to read what it is like to live another person with their specific struggles. Reading memories has made me feel so much empathy, understanding and astonishment for others and also realizes how many people fight in great battles that we cannot see. Sometimes I think that if all were required to read 40 memories in their life, the world would be a very different place.
Here are 10 that I have worshiped:
Tell me how it ends: an essay in 40 questions by Valerie Luiselli
Beautiful Qian Julie Wang’s country
Normal Chrysta Bilton family
Know my name by Chanel Miller
You will never believe what happened to Lacey by Amber Ruffin and Lacey Lamar
So Help Me God of Brooke Barker
MAJANE SATRAPI PERSEPOLIS
Beth Ann Fennelly heating and cooling
In Amy Bloom love
When the breath turns air by Paul Kalanithi XO
However! In addition to memoirs, I have not read so much nature/history/science/direct psychology/etc. I am very curious to hear what recommendations you have. In addition, the New York Times made a list of 21 non -fiction books to read this spring (gift link), if you want to read.
Please share your recs below; I am so anxious to listen. And thanks, Jennifer, for the request for publication.
PD: What is something beautiful you have read and what would be the title of your memoirs?
