I wanted to remodel my kitchen last year and I called you for a free estimate at home. Subsequently, my brother -in -law Danny said: “I can do it for a fraction of that.” It seemed a good idea.
Danny shattered the kitchen before going to buy the cabinets and the countertop, and I was without a kitchen for weeks. He bought the cheapest products he could find and installed badly. The doors of the wall cabinets do not align with the doors in the lower cabinets. The doors are crooked and do not match exactly. The countertop does not touch the wall on one side and hangs on the edge of the cabinet approximately one inch at the other end.
Danny refuses to admit that there is something wrong. And like a bonus, he thought that the price we agreed was too low when he had finished and demanded more money. He led to a very ugly family argument with some of my relatives who set aside and others took mine.
I made my kitchen because I was dreaming of having a great family dinner during the holidays. Now the possibility of a great family dinner is a nightmare, and I don’t feel like having to sit at a table with Danny pretending that everything is fine.
I regret to hear that this happened to you, Gwen. When things go to the hill with the family in remodeling, it can certainly be difficult to reconcile those differences. We suggest selecting a design design based on your credentials, and not depending on family tens.
If you consider a relative with HEP with remodeling, compare your answers with these questions with other local contractors. Contract the contractor to demonstrate your experience through customer credentials, references and reviews, regardless of your relationship with you. In the end, it will be easier to explain to his relative that he chose a different contractor, than to solve a dispute throughout the family.
