Four Fun Things | Cup of Jo

This year, like last year, my goal is to take some snaps of my friends with their kids. I LOVE seeing moms in photos and it’s fun trying to capture sweet, unposed moments. I told my friend Claire that I would like to be her personal Pete Souza.

I finally watched Ali Wong’s new comedy special, Single Lady, about dating after divorce, and my god, I laughed 1,000 times. “I’ve never been so persecuted in my life,” he said. “Guys, you never liked me growing up. In the ’90s, in high school, kids didn’t like charismatic A cups.” Nowadays she only dates divorced parents because “I want a man who’s been yelled at before.” Very good.

My kids eat A LOT these days (a gallon of milk only lasts a few days), so yesterday we made Ghirardelli boxed brownies for a snack. I had forgotten how rich, chewy and delicious they are. Definitely the best boxed brownies on the market. (Agree/disagree?)

On the topic of readers’ winter attire, London-based Sumaya sent a communication today: “I wait all year to wear my traditional Kashmiri velvet pheran. They used to be considered quite old-fashioned, but now they are popular among Kashmiris living in and outside Kashmir, and that makes me very happy. They’re made to be layered, so I pair mine with dresses, jeans, coats, anything. My son wears his with a hoodie and Uggs boots. And they all have POCKETS!

Personally, and much less colorfully, I like to wear a lot of soft browns. These pants get at least three compliments every time I wear them (the fit is really great, with a slightly flared leg and utilitarian style) and I wear them several times a week. (Here’s a similar pair with more size.)

What have you been up to lately?

PS: More fun stuff. Do you hang photos of your friends in your house?
