A Family Trip to the Florida Keys

A while ago, Alex suggested that each of us take a child for the break of February, so that we could enjoy one time one. He took Toby to visit the family, and Anton begged him to go to Florida.

We decided on the Keys of Florida and, after obsessively investigating hotels (did anyone like a publication on the choice of hotels? I have developed a multidalted strategy at this time, and I would love to listen to their methods), I landed in Coco Palm Inn in Key Long.

The little hotel in the bay was not too wasteful, even for a room suite with a sofa bed, and came with so many free surprises and delights once we arrived: breakfast muffins that left our door, coffee from the coffee Tomorrow, kayaks, fishing equipment, ping pong, giant jenga, cornhole, pool toys, bicycles, hammocks, came at sunset, S’Mores … do not stay in a super elegant place: there is no restaurant, for example, or Long Beach to walk, but I love a small hotel that feels at home once it arrives, in comparison With a resort that changes a million hidden rates. (Two nearby hotels that seem to have similar vibrations are the Atlantic Bay complex and the Caribbean complex).

Kayaks and Paddle boats stayed near the water, so that we could walk and jump at any time. We went in adventures around the bay, and Anton, Nick and I continued to say: “This is life, guys! Can you believe this?

The hotel scene felt like a summer camp, and we became friends with another family, which gave us an intelligent mnemonic device to remember their names. “Peanut butter and jam sandwich,” the father told me. “Since we are Peter, Bonnie, Jacob and Samuel.” How brilliant is that? Do you have one for your family? I want to solve one for the boys and me.

In addition to swimming, riding and asking me if they could drink more coca -cola, the children spent most of their days fishing. The hotel gave them shrimp, rods and frozen hooks, and the other guests of the hotel offered advice. I didn’t know anything about fishing, so I happily sat in one of the Adirondack chairs on the dock and read my book.

We were only two nights, since they were reserved after that, but we loved every minute.

After visiting, we conducted an hour south to Marathon, Florida, to our second hotel. On the way, we stopped at Aquarius meetings …

… where we could caress a crocodile baby …

… and feeding turtles, stripes and tans. Do not you love turtle patterns? They seem works of art (something like the paintings of Serena Mitnik-Miller).

Later that afternoon, we registered in Isla Bella during our last two nights. It was more elegant, with five pools and daily activities, such as Bingo and Trivia, but I am not sure to recommend it because a) Many extras are charged (resort rates, parking fees during the night, etc.) Yb) we had a room smaller than what we had reserved, but every time I called the reception or stopped me, they told me that the manager was out or in an important phone call.

I felt a bit like this guy, haha.

But, of course, it was fine (I gave up), and the beach was beautiful…

The boys played football in the pool for hours. We met a Dublin family, and I loved the mother’s phrase when she told me: “Your boys are very fun.”

The most important thing, on the trip back to the airport, we went through a Drive-Thru and we found the longest French fry in the world! The whole trip was a lot of fun. I wasn’t sure if traveling only with two 11 -year -old children would be exhausting, but they are such a big age often played together in the pool while reading and watched them. They also wanted to spend with me most of the time, what I appreciated, and I laughed at my fools jokes (or at least they said “hahaha”, pronounced “Lohl”). Thank you, Florida, we were grateful for a sun explosion during this long winter!
