Once the temperature drops, I’m tempted to live in a sweat from December to March. So, for inspiration, I asked Cup of Jo readers on Instagram to show us the winter outfits that make them feel good…
Says Mauresa (above), who lives in Central Virginia: “Lie down! You can pair any collared shirt with a sweater and top it with a jacket for a polished look.”
“My favorite top is this cardigan, which is so versatile that I have it in several different colors. What’s even better is that my friends have the same one. “We always have fun dressing the same.” —Sarah, London (centre)
“I switch between two styles: all black or a fun yellow scarf.” — Recipient, Washington, DC
“I’ve decided that the key to getting through my first winter with a baby is to go out and wear happy clothes. Here I’m wearing a floral puffer jacket from Nuuly (I started renting maternity clothes and haven’t stopped!), fleece-lined leggings from Prana Vida (recommended by a COJ commenter), a beanie from J.Crew, and Sorel boots. A tip I learned from living in Minnesota for six years: buy your snow boots one size larger so you can wear extra thick socks; Darn Tough are my favorites.” —Olivia, Rockville, Maryland
“Winters in Atlanta aren’t too extreme, so I can usually wear a couple layers. I lean toward neutral basics, like this gray B Sides sweatshirt, a navy pea coat, and white pants from Pistola, which have just the right amount of thickness. To give it a little shine, I add pearls. This outfit makes me feel confident.” —Mariam, Atlanta
“My favorite winter outfit is actually an item that makes everything look cool: a ’60s houndstooth flared coat.” — Alicia, Melbourne, Australia
“When I lived in the Bay Area, I would layer up because it would get so cold. I’m in Los Angeles now, which is warmer, but I still love wearing this plaid dress. Multiple colors mean it goes with many outfits! — Camille, Los Angeles
“My outfit as a stay-at-home mom to two beautiful wild babies is a cropped sweater, high-waisted jeans, and a pair of sneakers. Add a padded vest and store-bought lip tint. and that’s all “I look presentable enough for story time at the library.” —Katie, New Albany, Indiana
“I am an equine veterinarian who specializes in internal medicine; Basically, I care for sick horses that require advanced diagnosis or hospitalization. In the first photo, I’m ready to show up at a continuing education event in what (I hope) is a stylish equestrian outfit. In the second photo, I am dressed in an insulated coverall from Tractor Supply.” – Krista, Leesburg, Virginia
“I took my first transatlantic trip to London this fall and I was crazy about packing because I had no clothes for the cold. I ended up wearing this Mango coat and a pink scarf the entire trip. “Both pieces enhanced everything I wore underneath and kept me warm and comfortable.” — Angela, San Jose, California
