I will be completely honest and say that San Patricio’s day is one of those vacations that I do not celebrate. I have never done it. I do not drink green beer, not as Irish food, I don’t pinch people (please never touch me hahaha) and I always forget to use green. But I love bread. And I love the Irish soda bread, along with the Irish homemade cream.

What is the Irish soda bread?

The Irish soda bread has the most humble beginning. It was done during the time it was difficult to access high quality ingredients. It was simple: low protein flour, “soft drinks”, also known as sodium bicarbonate (for yeast), sour milk and … umm … that’s it!

This is what I like to call reworking Irish soda bread. It has a bit of cold grated butter, a bit of rolled oatmeal for texture. And instead of raisins, I added chocolate sparks because I love myself.

Ingredients that will need for the Irish soda bread with chocolate sparks

  1. Sodium bicarbonate. This is the key Irish soda bread ingredient. This is where the soda part enters. This will be our yeast.
  2. Buttermilk. The milk would be used traditionally “sour”. But instead, we are using milk serum. Create a delicious delicious crumb in this.
  3. Rolls Avena. I love the texture of the oatmeal in these.
  4. Chocolate chips. I am using milk chocolate here, but do not hesitate to wear black, semi sweet or you can even use raisins.

How to make Irish soda bread with chocolate sparks

  1. Mix the dry ingredients. There is all use, dark brown sugar, sodium bicarbonate and salt.
  2. Grate the cold butter. And then mix it in the flour mixture. As a result, butter will give this soda bread a good quality and texture.
  3. Add the rolled oatmeal and chocolate sparks.
  4. Pour the milk serum. I love using milk serum because it gives you a pleasant taste.
  5. Form the dough in a ball.
  6. Write down the upper part.

  8. Mix a little honey butter and serve it together with the slightly cooled Irish soda bread.

  • How to add raisins. I love the pass. I have matured 🙂 If you want, you can add raisins instead of chocolate chips. If you want to go crazy, you can soak the raisins in the whiskey for 10 minutes or so, drain them and then add them.

To make the soda bread:

  • Preheat the oven at 425 degrees F. Forre a baking tray with parchment; set aside.
