Closes Ortega is speaking for the first time after his departure from Love Island USA.
During the episode of July 6 of the Peacock reality Dating series, it was announced that Close He was removed from the town. His departure occurred after a resurgence post began to circulate on social networks in which he used a racial insult.
In a new Instagram video published on Wednesday (July 9), Close addressed the situation.
Keep reading for more information …“Now that I have returned to the United States for approximately 48 hours, and I have had the opportunity to process,” Close saying. “Now I feel that I am in a space where I can talk about this without being very emotional, because I am not the victim in this situation.”
Then he acknowledged that he had used a racial insult towards the Asian community.
“While I was in the town, there were some publications that resurfaced from my past where I was very naively using an incredibly offensive and derogatory term.” Close saying. “I want to start first addressing anyone who has hurt or deeply offended, but most importantly, to the entire Asian community, I am deeply, really, honestly, I feel it.”
She continued: “I had no idea that the word had so much pain, so much damage, and came with the story it made, or would never have used it. I had no bad intention when I was using it. But that is absolutely no excuse, because the intention does not excuse ignorance.”
Close He also said that he wanted to “assume responsibility” of his resurgent publication and said it has been a “moment of true learning.”
“I want you to know that I really had an idea that it was an insult.” Close saying. “I had no idea of its meaning, and it was not until I made the publication of public history in 2024 when a follower of mine approached to correct me and let me know that what I was saying was incredibly painful.”
He continued to say that he eliminated the post and “immediately” eliminated the word of his vocabulary, adding that he has made “so much growth” since he initially shared the publication.
Close He also said that she understands Peacock’s decision to eliminate her from Love Island USA.
“I completely agree with the network decision to get me out of the town,” ” Close saying. “This is something that deserved a punishment, and the punishment has received absolutely, sure.
Close He also addressed the situation in his History of Instagram, writing in a statement: “I do not do it, and I have never tolerated racism or repression of any cultural group in any way. I would never use any word intentionally, especially an insult, to tear down the culture or community of anyone.”
“When I used that word, I did not completely understand what it meant or how much pain it has,” he continued. “I learned how deeply wrong it was when they called me in 2024, and as I can see in the screenshot that I shared in my video, I was really ashamed and wanted to do what I could at that time to make sure that I never made that careless error.
Close He added: “While I had no bad intention, I completely understand that the impact is more important than intention. I do not expect forgiveness overnight. I just hope that over time I can show that I am more than an error, a label or a character in a highly edited reality show. I am someone who tries to spread love and light, even when I am wrong, and I hope that my actions here speak stronger than this error.”
“My experience in the town was nothing less than magical. The memories I made and the people I met are the ones I will appreciate forever,” he concluded. “While I am disconsolate, my trip had to be interrupted, I understand that errors, especially as this, deserve consequences.
