Happy new year! It seems like 2025 came out of nowhere, but we made it to another year and I’m glad I get to live another year trying to live my best life. At the end of this month it’s Lunar New Year, which means another round of #LunarJanuary, which means I try to feature as many Asian brands as possible on the blog. My plan is to try and feature MORE great masks and different beauty products from Asia or Asian-owned brands, but since I’m also trying to shop low this month, I’ll be buying out my stash, which frankly is big enough. Which is almost like going out to buy things!
Today’s #LunarJanuary post features veteran Korean skincare brand, it’s skin who are known for some of the cutest and most affordable skincare products with decent ingredients for the price. The four-leaf masks that I present today are from The cool mask series. There are 10 types in total, but Miniso only had these four (obviously I would have bought them all if they were there LOL). All four masks were quite similar, so I’ll just do brief reviews of each without my usual breakdown.
Aloe: moisturizing and soothing
Soothing, yes, but even though it contained aloe in the top half of the Essence, it was clear and watery with no sticky feeling upon removal, but it definitely needed moisturizer and eye cream on top. It also smelled like aloe vera!
In terms of mask fit, all four masks fit the same with creases in the chin area that I just couldn’t smooth out. The material of the mask was soft and comfortable, but the fit was a bit distracting.
Carrot: light skin
Carrot extract contains beta-carotene, which is an antioxidant and may help improve elasticity, texture, and age spots. This mask also contains brightening licorice root. This didn’t smell like carrots if that’s what anyone was wondering! It didn’t have much of a scent and was vaguely sweet. The essence was clear and watery and did not remain sticky on my face after removing it. However, I needed eye cream and moisturizer because I felt a little dry a few minutes after removing the mask.
Blueberry: vitality and moisture
Cranberry extract is another antioxidant that helps improve skin texture and redness, as it is also an anti-inflammatory. This mask smelled faintly of blueberries and had a milky scent. This mask was not sticky upon removal and compared to all the other masks, I didn’t feel the need to use additional moisturizer.
Bamboo: Moisturizing and Cool
What’s so good about bamboo extract? It helps soothe the skin and is also an antioxidant capable of fighting free radicals. The scent was clear and watery with a slightly sweet aroma that reminded me a little of tea. It wasn’t sticky when removed, but I felt like my skin needed more moisture, so I added two drops of Pelegrims Concentrated Facial Serum on top.
Final verdict: For the price, I’d say these masks are perfectly fine and while they’re not super hydrating on their own, I’m someone who prefers to layer skincare. I think I paid $2 each for these masks, so while they weren’t perfect, I feel like I got my money’s worth and would happily try the other six masks that are part of this collection.
