Share some of my best remote work tips since I have worked at home for so many years. I know that some of you also work remote, so share your best productivity tips or tricks in the comments.
Hello friends! I hope you are well and enjoy the day. I have a Podcast interview this morning and today we have the usual fun of home/dance/basketball education.
Today, I wanted to chat a little about working from home and Brainstrom’s advice with all of you.
OG reader’s friends are familiar with this story, but I started the blog when we lived in Valdosta, Ga. He had just started working as a personal coach and leaving the world of retail management, and ended up becoming something he could never have imagined. I love being able to connect with all of you, and every day, I am very grateful for the freedom to work and get income from home while I can be here for children.
I know that many friends who are in a business from home or work remotely. It has become the “new normality” and I love that it is an option. From the pandemic, the way we think about work has completely changed: the offices at home replaced the cubicles, the video chats replaced the conference rooms and the coffee shops became the new coworking centers. And honestly? It comes with a lot of benefits: Comfort, flexibility, less trips and, often, a better opportunity in the real balance of working life.
But here is the truth: remote work or work from home is not always easy. Without correct strategies, you can feel insulating, overwhelming or even unproductive.
Today, I wanted to share some of my favorite remote work tips that will help you live your best working life, whether you are at home, an office or a cafeteria.
Remote work tips
I think understanding what remote work really means is key. It’s not just working on pajamas or answering phone calls from the couch. It is about designing systems, routines and habits that keep it productive, connected and fulfilled.
These tips to work remotely are destined to help not only to “survive”, but also to succeed, grow and enjoy their work from home configuration. I also wanted to include tips for my friends who work virtually for a company, because working for you is a different beast. (If you want you to make more blog posts behind the scene, I would be happy to do it too!)
What does remote work mean?
In essence, remote work means doing its work outside a traditional office. That could mean establishing an office at home, working from a cafeteria or even doing your job while traveling. Unlike conventional works, there is no water cooler chat, or trips in the morning and no boss who passes through his desk every 20 minutes.
The biggest difference? Freedom and responsibility. He has more, for example, during his work hours, his work space and his daily rhythm, but he also needs discipline and creativity to stay focused.
Remote work is no longer just a benefit; It is a completely new way of structuring both work and life.
How to make remote work successful
How to stay productive while working remotely
Tip: Create a “travel ritual” (even if it’s false)
One of the most difficult parts of remote work is to change “starting mode” to “work mode”. Check your brain with a mini ritual: walk around the block, make a special coffee or listen to a pumping list of 5 minutes before sitting on your desk. It is pointed to your brain that your work hours have begun.
Tip: Hands your work space
Omits disorder. Add plants, a salt lamp or even a candle to your home office configuration. Research shows that environmental signals influence productivity, so make your space inspiring.
Bonus: No one prevents you from hanging spinting lights or configuring a running tape desk. I love my pad for walking and use it often throughout the day.
Tip: Work in Time Blocks
Because it is very easy for me to distract myself, I will block my time so that I am only focused on a specific task for that period of time.
How to ask for an increase when you work remotely
Tip: collect “receipts”
It is easy for remote contributions to go unnoticed. Keep a document in victories: completed projects, brilliant customers comments, crushed deadlines. When the time comes, you will have data to make a copy of your application (and it is more difficult for a boss to say not when it is right in front of them).
How to build relationships while working remotely
Tip: Schedule telephone calls without work
Not everything has to be about deliverables. Put “virtual coffee chats” on your calendar. These 15 -minute informal calls with co -workers imitate the office water cooler and help you stay connected beyond loose messages.
How to communicate effectively when working remotely
Tip: Embrace voice notes
Haaaaate writing anything that is more than a few prayers. A fast voice note (through Slack, Voxer or WhatsApp) can clarify things faster and add heat. In this way, they can say what you mean with the tone of your voice, instead of being confused by the emojis.
How to dress for remote work
Tip: adopts the “Zoom Salmontete”
Business at the top, cozy at the bottom. Invest in some “power tops” (bright colors, sharp necklaces) that make it look polished in video calls, while their leggings or runners remain hidden under the desk. I do this all the time hahaha.
How to feel connected when you work remotely
Tip: a ritual of “third space” begins
When you are not in an office, life can feel like an endless cycle of house and home … home. Break it working once a week from a cafeteria or library. This creates a “third space” that maintains your stimulated brain and makes work feel fresh. I also find that I am much more productive in a cafeteria.
How to submit taxes as a remote worker
Tip: Create a digital “shoe box”
Configure a “tax” tagged cloud folder. Every time I buy something related to work. Either a new desktop chair, software or that Wi-Fi cafeteria: leave the receipt. The tax season comes, its deductions are organized and will not panic the old emails. We use a Bookaper to track everything, I just sent my statements every month, and it makes it much easier.
Bonus: Protect your energy
Remote work makes it easy to blur the limits. Protect your energy establishing hard “closure rituals” at the end of your work hours: close the laptop, turn on a candle, walk or go directly to training.
Do you need some ideas? See my training hacks list that can help you restore tasks.
Remote work is more than a different configuration: it is a change of lifestyle. With correct creative routines, limits and adjustments, you can design a remote working life that supports its productivity, relationships and general welfare.
So, tell me, friends: how many of you work from home in front of an office? Do you use a coworking space or a cafeteria?
